Mon 8/3 22:30 TRAINING ON WEDNESDAYS START THIS WEEK - At the all new time of 6:30 to, but still on number 3 oval. If you have not had a chance to fill out forms yet Annette will be there for you to fill them in and get your rego sorted. If it is rained out, she still will be there, but in the Forum cafe from 6:30 to 7:30... Team nominations are getting super close so it is vitally important we get your rego in ASAP...
Wed 24/2 09:30 O-Week going great guns - We are getting heaps of names on our lists at the O-Week table thanks to Lindsay and all the other volunteers. We are also getting a big interest in this weekends Have-A-Go competition for non members, and we are going to need people to help out. It starts at 12 on Sunday and there may be quite a crowd, so we are going to need at least 10 members there to help run it. If you can come along call me now on 0428 965 798 and let me know. This is a chance to get a lot of students to give our club a go, so we really need to put our best foot forward... Cheers, Svenn
Wed 17/2 17:30 Next week is O-Week - If you have time to help out at the O-Week table have you called or emailed Annette to let her know yet? The committee decided to reward members who help out by giving volunteers a free hat, belt and socks to use this season. Help the club sign up heaps of new players and get a reward for your trouble...
Wed 3/2 09:30 Coaches, Scorers and Umpires to do levels training- Anyone keen to know more about what they are volunteering to do? The association is offering subsidies to our club in return for players and scorers to undergo levels training. As a club we desperately need more people able to coach properly and improve the quality of our training sessions and game days. It would also be brilliant to have scorers and umpires that are accredited as the more you know about those jobs the easier they are. Anyone interested please hit contact us straight away and let us know... The association will be arranging courses pre season for us to attend.
Wed 3/2 09:30 O-Week Volunteers Wanted - O-Week is fast approaching and we will again need keen club people to help out with the table, signing up all those keen students who want to play baseball. We have booked the table for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and need people for every day. Contact Svenn if you can spare some time between 9 and 3 to help out. You will be rewarded with much back patting and general thanks from the club...
Mon 31/1 07:30 Grounds closed and training cancelled - Sorry all, but the first training session for 2010 is a wash out... See you all next Sunday though!!!
Mon 19/1 07:30 Pitcher and Catcher training this Sunday - This Sunday at 5 we will all meet near the tennis courts at Empire park for another session. This is the last time before regular training starts again, so if you want to roll your arm over in preparation for training, don't miss the chance.
Mon 18/1 07:30 The girls are heading to Sydney - This weekend some of the girls are heading to Sydney to play against local and international teams at Blacktown Olympic Park. There are games on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, so to support the Newcastle girls and see some great international women's players, head down to watch. It is a great venue and there should be some great games...
Thu 12/11 16:30 Pitcher and Catcher training this Sunday - For all who don;t know about yet, we are having fortnightly training for pitchers and catchers this summer, in an attempt to keep the rust away. This Sunday at 4:30 we will all meet at the north end of Empire park for another session. That is the park that has Dixon Park Bowling Club in it, in case you have never heard of it. Everyone is welcome to come and have a throw and learn to pitch or catch.
Wed 20/10 14:30 World Masters Games 2009 - Just in case anyone is interested, Jonesy, T.C., Shredder and myself went down to the World Masters Games with the Port Stephens Marlins side last week. After much fine baseball, a few beers, way to much food (right Jonesy?) and many aches and pains, a respectable 13th from 39 teams was achieved. Good fun had by all...
Wed 20/10 14:30 Surrender the Sponsor This Saturday night - Everyone come along and help celebrate handing over the beloved Bennett Hotel to the softballers for the Summer. Watch Svenn and Kristy partake in the traditional pint sculling ceremony, enjoy a sausage sanga at the gourmet BBQ, chat and make merry with fellow baseballers and softballers. A great night to be had and free (Except for how much you spend on drinks)... We hope to see you all there...
Mon 21/9 08:30 Preso night a sensational night - Thanks to everyone for coming along and making Preso night a huge success. Everyone had a top evening, heading back to the Bennett till the we hours. The costumes were brilliant and the food went down a treat, except for the fruit salad, which everyone seemed to dodge. No health nuts in our club. Thanks to everyone who help organise the night, and congratulations to Annette Poulton for winning Clubman of the Year in 2009.

Keep checking back on the web site from time to time for any news over the off season that may come up. Just because we are not playing baseball, does not mean we are not working on the following year over Summer. Plus don't forget the Surrender the Sponsor party at the Bennett on the first round of the softball season.

Tue 8/9 15:30 New sponsors - Waterford Accountants - One of the annual tasks that happens behind the scenes each year is the club accounts, and each year these accounts have to be audited before they are presented to NU Sport. Waterford Accountants at Kotara have graciously offered to audit our accounts free of charge, and the softball clubs also, saving the club quite a bit of money. So if you ar ein need of an accountant, how about heading over to Waterfords and saying thanks for helping out your club. Look for their banner, coming soon or go to www.waterfordaccountants.com.au.
Tue 7/9 15:30 Awwwwww, 4s went down against Phoenix - The lads put up a hell of a fight, but in the end Phoenix just bombed the hell out of the ball... Great season though guys and I am sure you will be up there again next season...
Thu 3/9 20:30 THIS SATURDAY - CALLING ALL CAMELS !!! - 4th grade are our only team to make the grand final this season, and they are bang up for some support this Saturday at Boomerangs. So get on your Camels cap, supporters shirts and anything else maroon you have like underwear and get to the game. Shredder and the lads will put on a great show for us all and we can help them go back to back...
See you all there peoples.
Tue 25/8 20:30 This weekend there is plenty still happening - Is your team not playing this weekend? Think the season is over for you? Well think again. We have finals on this Saturday at our ground, so we need people to help out with ground setup, canteen and pack up afterwards. If you can help out it would be greatly appreciated as we stand to make the club some good money if we get it right. Email or call Annette Poulton now if you can make it to help out...
Tue 25/8 20:30 Awesome Pancakes Lindz !!! - Everyone had a great time drinking the free beers and scoffing down heaps of tasty pancakes, thanks to Lindsay Hill. It was a great fun game to watch, even though we did not win, and the crowd got very vocal, making the last round heaps of fun. Thanks Lindz for feeding us all and making it a tops day...
Tue 18/8 20:30 Have you got your Presentation Night tickets? - No? Then why the bloody hell not? Katherine is selling tickets day and night and we already have a good crowd, but there is always room for more. It would be sensational to see everyone there to celebrate the season gone by, discuss the stats, drink the free beer, harangue the award winners, eat the yummy food and much more. Just $20 for members and $35 for non members so see Kath in person or contact her now at treasurer@unibaseball.org
Tue 18/8 20:30 Don't forget this weekend !!! - We are having the big final round this weekend starting at the Bennett Hotel on Saturday night for pre game drinks, followed by FREE pancakes and beers at the ground during 2nd grade on Sunday. Fri 26/6 20:30 Uni Number 3 CLOSED !!! - I know the ground is supposedly open, according to the Forum web site, but... I went over and had a look and there is no way in hell we can play on the mush that is pretending to be grass... It is only suitable for frogs and wading birds out there in left field and the deep tire ruts that were left by the tractor when they marked out the infield line are an indication that even the infield is potentially dangerous... Sorry minors, but there is just no way we can play... Wet Weather Online
Wed 24/6 07:30 State of Origin night a great success - How good was the turn out last night at the pub? Excellent I say, and Simone Jones from 6th grade did a brilliant job pushing raffle tickets down the throat of the locals to raise the club around $300. Thanks again to Dave McCoy and the Bennett Hotel for donating the raffle prize and a big thanks for everyone who come along to watch the game and support the sponsor... Great fun night even though Queensland won. This was one of the rare times I was not barracking for the maroon team...

Sun 31/5 07:30 The Good, The Bad and The Ugly - The Good was the excellent turn out last night at the Bennett for the Fees Offset Raffle draw. It was a tops night and congratulations to Matty Grove for taking home the prize of $600 worth of grog. It was a great send off for Justin  and Matt Vaske, Who made a worthy pool team, even though they tried to introduce some very strange 'American' rules to give themselves the edge. The Bad is that Maitland's ground is rained out. No baseball for any of us, unless you are watching Fox Sports this morning like I am to see the Twins V the Rays. So what's The Ugly? My hang over...
Sat 30/5 07:30 Miller is out and No3 is out - Dag namit... No play again for minors this weekend. Miller field is closed and since uni ground is also shut there is no BP either. I will still be going to the uni at 6 to pick up students who want a lift to the Bennett Hotel...

Sun 24/5 05:00 WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN - Two from two today again Boomerangs. 2nds finally broke their drought with a nice win and 3rds are back to winning form. Not bad for a weekend where we thought for sure we would not play due to rain...

Lindsay hill has broken her right leg and Grant Wood has a stuffed back (Insert shaggers back joke here). Is there anyone else who can't play this weekend? Mon 6/4   Training this Wednesday Night is definitely ON!!! - OK, so we missed round one, but let's all make sure we go to training this Wednesday night and be ready for the next round. Getting rusty is the worst thing you can do pre season, so don't think that just because it is Easter this week no one will need to train. We have another pitching net coming this week so we can work with two pitchers at once now. Since there is no games coming up it is a good week to really throw a lot of training pitches and work on your technique... See you all there at 7:00pm on number 3... Remember it is ready by 7, not arrive at 7...
Sun 5/4   Surrender the Sponsor a great night  - Even though the rain came down all day we still had a great turn out to the Bennett last night for the surrender the Sponsor party. Jackie was (as expected) pathetic at attempting to scull a pint full of Vodka and Orange, but her side of the clubs reputation was saved by Sarah who not only downed 90% of the drink, but did it in a very respectable time. Thank you Dave McCoy for filling my pint with frigging Pink Champaign again... My head hurts...
Thanks heaps to Jonesy and Spot for cooking everyone's dinner in the rain while we all stayed inside and kept warm. Champions...
Sun 5/4   Uni number 3 closed again today - Just to much rain happened yesterday and last night for us to get on... The games and batting practice are all of today...
Sat 4/4   Bloody Rain - OK, so mother nature has turned our first round dreams into frustration, but let us not fear a total loss. The Surrender the Sponsor Party IS STILL DEFINITELY ON, so come to the Bennett tonight for a top party and mingle...
Fri 3/4   Team lists updated again - @ 12:15 See Members Area
Thurs 3/4   Round one looms... - Have you found your name on the team lists yet? You better go there post haste and check out when and where you and your team are playing... Check out the new batting practice section to find out when you can come have a hit with the new pitching machine each weekend. Find it all in our Members Area... Remember to put your coaches number into your phone and call if you can't make it or even if you are going to be a little bit late for any reason. Don't start the year by getting the person who has the power to bench you all season angry...
Tues 31/3   Pitching machine prompts change - Effective immediately, Friday night batting practice is now over. Instead we have decided to hold batting practice on the diamond before minors and after majors, when we have a home game. This means that this weekend we will have BP on Saturday morning at 8:00 AM and also on Sunday Afternoon after 2nds finish. These BP sessions are for everyone, so both Majors and Minors please come to both sessions. The pitching machine works brilliantly and you will get a sensational batting session with heaps of strikes !!!
