Hi Steve
As I was the stand
in coach of 4s last weekend against Toronto, I guess it is my duty
to say thank you to you Steve.
4th
grade were short against Toronto with 3 of our 4 pitches out and one
with a sore wing.
After numerous
emails between various club members with trying to obtain a pitcher
from 3rd grade, 4s were left feeling like the club had
abandoned us.
Some long term
club members were not feeling the same commitment and flexibility
from the club, as was requested by them by the club at the start of
the year when numbers were low.
Those club members
felt that the club had gotten what they wanted, and now the rest
could do what ever.
It was hard for me
to see these club members thinking that way.
Where does the
thank you come into it?
After a further
talk with you, you pointed out that the 3rd grade does
not have a very deep pitching roster, 2 I think, which did not leave
3rds with a strong defensive side if one was taken out for the week.
We could have,
however, use the 5th graders at will, and as you are the
coach of 5s, you indicated that Sonny might be able to double up,
along with possibly doubling up any other players.
We accepted this
and moved forward.
To our surprise
and also in our favor, when we showed up at the ground at Toronto,
we saw that you had in fact sat Sonny on the bench all game in 5s so
that he could be used in 4s.
This is where the
thank you comes in.
Sonny was, in no
doubt of everyone at the ground, the MVP of the game, he pitched
fantastic, and along with our bats connecting to put us in front at
the last inning, with light failing, he stuck out the last 6
batters, straight up straight down, to secure our win.
Without Sonny, we
would not have had the win, no doubt, so thank you for saving Sonny
for 4s, the team as a whole appreciates that gesture.
I hope the club
members involved can now see the predicament 3rd grade
was in when they initially heard NO, and also how the situation was
resolved with your actions.
Thank you.
Stand in coach 4th
grade,
Shredder.
