May 16: LHP recalled from Triple-A Norfolk; RHP optioned to Triple-A
Irvin, who was part of the Orioles' Opening Day rotation, made three starts in the big leagues to open the season, recording a 10.66 ERA and a 1.97 WHIP. At that point, Baltimore optioned the 29-year-old left-hander, who was acquired in a Jan. 26 trade with Oakland. Manager Brandon Hyde said Irvin will provide length out of the O's bullpen for now, but he's confident Irvin will make more starts for the team this season.

Gillaspie was called up Monday prior to the series opener vs. the Angels, during which the 26-year-old right-hander allowed one run in 1 2/3 innings.

INJURY UPDATES

10-day and 15-day IL

RHP Dillon Tate (right elbow flexor strain)
Expected return: May
Tate pitched for Triple-A Norfolk on May 16 vs. Syracuse, which marked the eighth appearance of his rehab assignment and his third in Triple-A. He allowed four runs on six hits in one-third of an inning. The next day, manager Brandon Hyde said Tate would need at least one more rehab outing before his return. The 29-year-old right-hander previously made four appearances for Double-A Bowie and one for High-A Aberdeen. (Last updated: May 17)

RHP (left knee inflammation)
Expected return: May
Givens made his sixth rehab appearance on May 16, retiring all five batters he faced in Triple-A Norfolk's 9-7 win over Syracuse. It was his first outing for Norfolk after the 33-year-old right-hander made his previous five rehab appearances with Double-A Bowie. The next day, manager Brandon Hyde said Givens would throw a bullpen session within the next few days, and then the team would evaluate him from there. (Last updated: May 17)

IF Ramón Urías (left hamstring strain)
Expected return: TBD
When Urías went on the 10-day IL on May 9, Orioles general manager Mike Elias said he didn't have a "firm grasp yet of the expected length of [Urías'] IL stay," but the 28-year-old infielder could "miss a good bit of time." Urías sustained the injury on May 8 while running to first base on a single in the ninth inning of the O's loss to the Rays. He swung in the batting cage on May 14 and was "much improved," per manager Brandon Hyde. (Last updated: May 14)

60-day IL

LHP John Means (Tommy John surgery)
Expected return:
July
Means, a Dallas resident, was with the Orioles for their three-game series at Texas from April 3-5, as the 29-year-old left-hander continued his recovery from Tommy John surgery (which he underwent last April 27). Means said he has been throwing a couple of 30-pitch bullpen sessions every week, using only his fastballs and changeups. He anticipates adding in curveballs and sliders in the near future. He remains optimistic he could potentially be back with Baltimore before the end of July. (Last updated: April 4)
